A Personalized Branding Session for Shakari

This week, I had the pleasure of working with Shakari, a newly licensed realtor joining Towering Pens, a well-respected real estate company in the area. She reached out to Makana Photography to schedule a headshot and branding session, ensuring her professional image aligned with her new career.

Before every session, I send out a detailed questionnaire to understand my client’s preferences and goals. Shakari expressed that she wanted a mix of images, including headshots, full-body shots, and cropped images. She preferred neutral and earthy tones for her backgrounds and outfits, staying away from overly vibrant colors. Additionally, she wanted a few black-and-white images to add variety to her portfolio.

The Headshot & Branding Experience

I began the session in my headshot studio, capturing classic shoulder-up images against a pure white backdrop—my signature style. These clean, crisp images are perfect for professional branding, LinkedIn profiles, and business cards.


Next, I moved into the lifestyle room to create a variety of branding images. I set up different shots to showcase Shakari’s personality and professionalism:

  • Seated on a barstool for a relaxed yet confident look

  • Standing poses to emphasize approachability and expertise

  • Sitting on a couch and an accent chair for a modern, welcoming feel

  • Using props like her phone and laptop to convey a busy, engaged professional


To ensure versatility, I captured a mix of candid shots and posed images, some with her looking directly at the camera and others with her gazing off-camera. I also alternated between glasses and no-glasses looks to provide her with more options.
