A few months ago, I had the pleasure of working with the amazing Emmy, a model signed with SLUAGENCY.
She reached out to me about scheduling a session for her comp card—and if you're wondering, "What's a comp card?"—let me fill you in!
A comp card is an essential marketing tool, especially for models and actors. It's a showcase of the best and most current images from a model's portfolio, and it acts like a business card to show to potential clients, agents, and agencies. Think of it as a model's calling card to leave a lasting impression and open doors to more opportunities.
Emmy’s modeling career is nothing short of impressive. She has done work in the athletic field, everything from golf to athletic wear, and has even had the opportunity to model at some of the iconic Pinehurst golf courses—how cool is that? You can check out her portfolio here to see her talent in action. But for our session, we were ready to take things up a notch and add some variety to her comp card.
Vision Meets Reality: Creating the Perfect Session
When Emmy reached out, she sent me a vision board for her comp card session, and I was so excited to bring her ideas to life. As a headshot and branding photographer, I’m always up for new challenges, and this session was no different.
We decided on a couple of different setups to give her comp card some personality and variety.
First up: white on white. Emmy looked stunning in a simple but elegant setup with soft lighting coming in from the back—this gave the photos a fresh, clean look that let her shine. The white-on-white vibe worked perfectly for showcasing her natural beauty and versatility.
Then we switched things up and went for something a little bolder. Emmy rocked a cute colorful dress that added a pop of color and showed off a completely different side of her. It was the perfect contrast to the softer, more minimalistic white shots. The pink dress was flirty and fun, and I loved how it gave us some playful energy for the session.
And of course, we had to get a little creative with props! We grabbed some stylish sunglasses and added them into the mix for some photos that screamed confidence and coolness. These images really highlighted her personality and added some extra flair to her comp card.
A Fun and Productive Photography Session for a Southern Pines Modeling Comp Card Shoot
What made the session so great was how easy and fun it was to work with Emmy. She was a total professional, but also so easygoing and fun to be around, which made the whole process feel like a breeze. We laughed, tried out different poses, and got some seriously gorgeous shots. There’s something special about working with someone who’s not only talented but also genuinely enjoys what they do—and Emmy was definitely one of those people.
The session took place in my studio, which was the perfect setting to capture all the different looks we had planned. The controlled environment meant we could focus on getting the lighting just right, and we had plenty of space to move around and try out new angles and poses. I’m lucky to have a studio that’s versatile enough for a variety of shoots, whether we’re doing headshots, branding, or something more creative like this modeling session.
